February 5, St. Michael's Academy crushes San Antonio's Holy Cross 17 days after Holy Cross upset St. Mikes by 5 points in San Antonio. Holy Cross was never in this one, with SMCA scoring 30 points in the first quarter and completely dominating HC they simply ran away with this one. Coach Smith has his front court of Jaymes Maldonado, Austin Burch and Jake Kocher really getting it done on defense, and just in time with playoffs around the corner.
For a second consecutive game forward Adam Whitlock takes charge of the boards pulling down 10 and making his presence known under the basket, along with 10 rebounds Whitlock added 6 assist. Also helping out with rebounding duties were point guard Jaymes Maldonado (5) and Jake Kocher (8).
With this win SMCA reaches the 20 win mark for the season a feat not many Central Texas teams including public schools will be able to match. Along the way they've beaten teams like Stony Point HS (5A), Vista Ridge (4A), Pflugerville Connally (4A), San Antonio Lee (5A), Vandegrift (4A), Corpus Christi King (5A), and Halletsville 2010 2A Region IV Champion with a record of 36 and 1. Wow! what a line up, you won't see many Texas public schools scheduling games against this type of competition and winning 20 games much less a small private school. But here you are St. Michael's we hope to see you playing far into the playoffs, good luck and keep up the intensity.
