Bastrop vs Hutto

February 8, this was a tough battle between to district leaders.  With both teams coming in at 6 and 3 this game was equally important for both the Bears and the Hippos the loser would go down one game to the winner making it that much harder to get into the playoffs.  In a district with Rudder and Hendrickson every win is important and this one may have been the most important of the season with Rudder still on the schedule for the Bears they needed to get this win.

Senior guard Josiah Monroe came ready to play last night scoring 22 points in the victory over the Hippos, guard Jordan Roach added 16 of his own and both Alton Thompson and John Thorne had 10.  If the Bears are able to get into the playoffs their going to need big games from Roach, Thompson, Thorne as well as senior Patrick Bryant if they want to move through the playoffs and make a run at a state title.

Hutto also has district leader Rudder on the schedule so if they are able to upset Rudder in their next meeting they may just have a chance at getting into the playoffs.  The Hippos has a great showing form senior Corwin Spears scoring 21 points in the loss.  Also having big games offensively were senior Denzel Bellinger with 14, brother Tevin Bellinger added 11 of his own but it just wasn't enough.

The first quarter really hurt the Hippos, the Bears played great defense holding the Hippos to only 14 points and they were just not able to get all 13 of those points back in the end.  It seemed like they just ran out of gas late in the fourth and were unable to get that one crucial defensive stop they needed to pull off a win.

Good luck to both teams we hope to see them both beat up on the outsider Rudder and hopefully they both get a chance to get into the playoffs.
