February 7, the Bowie Bulldogs take down Anderson High 62 to 44. Anderson was never really in this game, the Bulldogs outscored Anderson in each of the first three quarters and with the game in hand pulled back a little in the fourth making it a closer game than it really was.
Bowie's long range shooters finally come through with Jake Varela scoring 14 and Mareik Isom 13. Bowie will need to have these two guys continue to contribute these types of numbers if they want to move through the playoffs. PG Paul Baxter and F Connor Robinson need to make an effort to get these two shooters involved in the game if they want to make a run at a state championship. Getting them 10 to 12 shot opportunities per game forces the defense to get out and guard them opening up lanes for Baxter and forcing teams to guard Robinson one on one in the low post.
I really don't see the Bulldogs getting passed Bi district without a contribution from both Isom and Varela. On a good day these two are two of the best shooters in the area, on a great day they are the best in the area. But the big two Baxter and Robinson need to make an effort to get them involved.
The best way to keep a shooter from hurting you is keep the ball out of his hands, that can be done with great defense or offensive players forcing shots and not making that extra pass allowing them a chance to shoot.
Good luck Bulldogs hope to see you playing far into the playoffs.
