There was little doubt that the Pflugerville Tigers would move into the second round of the playoffs defeating Anderson High. That said you would not have known that with the way the Anderson Trojans came out, in the first quarter. The Tigers were held to only 9 points their lowest out put of the season.
The second quarter was not much better for the Tigers, the Trojan offense matched the Tigers point for point throughout the second with senior Justin Clark helping keep the Trojans in the game. Anderson went in at half only down 2 points and with the momentum on their side. Tiger guard Deon Mitchell struggled to get going in the first half but those who know Mitchell knew it was just a matter of time before he would pick up.
With the lead starting the third quarter the Tigers came out wanting to speed up the game but the Trojan defense was not having it. They continued to play strong holding the Tigers to only 17 and staying within 6 points going into the fourth quarter. Junior Hayden Graham along with Clark continued to keep the Trojans in the game offensively.
With only a 6 point lead starting the fourth the Tigers knew they needed to pick it up on both sides of the ball. The Trojans began to look tired and maybe they had just used up what they had in the tank trying to keep the game close through the first three quarters. As they got into the middle of the fourth things began to open up for the Tigers the lanes got wider and shot began to fall. In the end the Tigers out scored the Trojans 28 to 18 in the fourth giving them the win and moving them on to the next round.
I have to give the Anderson team and coaching staff a lot of credit. Coach Leal Anderson really had his team ready to play and it showed early on. Great season Trojans we look forward to seeing you all in the playoffs for a lot of years.
