February 1, another disappointing loss for the Bowie Bulldogs against rival Austin High. The Maroons came out and made a statement defensively in the first quarter holding the Bulldogs to only 5 points and that was the difference at the end of the game. The Bulldogs didn't give up coming back in the second holding the Maroons to only 8 but this looked to be a defensive battle between both teams.
If Bowie looked to win they were going to need a big game from both guard Paul Baxter and forward Connor Robinson, unfortunately for Bowie Baxter and Robinson struggled offensively and no one stepped up to make up the deference. Baxter finished the game with only 8 points and Robinson 14 no one else was even close to double figures and with Baxter and Robinson struggling some one else needed to have a big game. Defensively Bowie did a great job holding Austin High's Eric McClellan and Chance Robbins to only 13 points in the game but with this loss and an unfortunate loss against Anderson it puts them at 3 and 3 in district play one game behind Akins.
Austin High 45, Bowie 40
AHS: McClellan 13, Wright 2, Robbins 13, Gonzales 4, Strake 7, Reinking 6
BHS: Necak 6, Baxter 8, Isom 6, Robinson 14, Varela 6
Records: B: 3-3, AH: 24-2 6-0.
