Austin Starts the Season Pretty Good
Things are looking pretty good for the Austin High basketball team. The 11-man squad recently landed a Facebook fans page, and an 18-2 start has generated some buzz in the hallways. And as Austin High opens District 15-5A play tonight against Bowie, the Maroons have their first playoff appearance since 2008 in sight. The Maroons are ranked 24th in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' Class 5A poll. Bowie is No. 21 in the same poll. Bowie and Austin High headline a strong district in which five of the six teams have winning records. Westlake is 10-11 this season, but the Chaparrals won the District 25-5A crown last season. Tonights game between Austin High and Bowie should set the tone for the rest of district play, Bowie is lead by Junior Guard Paul Baxter and Senior Forward Connor Robinson who lead Central Texas last season with a 70% field goal percentage.
