Congratulations to Deon Mitchell a 2011 graduate of Pflugerville High School who will be joining the University of Northern Iowa Panthers in the fall of 2011. Deon was a first-team all-state pick as a senior in 2011. He averaged 21 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds per game also a first-team all-region honoree, central Texas MVP and District MVP. As a junior Deon averaged 17.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game and played on several AAU teams including the ATX Boys coached by Jake Varela and the Texas D1 Ambassadors. He was a three time first-team all-district pick and tallied all-state honors as sophomore.
Deon was also recruited by Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Marquette, Texas A&M and TCU chose UNI because "the coaches are cool and the team is unselfish." Deon said "Deon has a great feel for creating opportunities for his teammates," UNI head coach Ben Jacobson said. "He has the ability the score, but does a good job of making the game easier for the rest of his team. Deon is very good in the open floor and will be fun to watch."
We have watched Deon since he was in middle school and look forward to great things from him at the college level. Make sure you bring a coat Deon because the winters in Iowa are COLD....
